Bio
Therese Boisclair is a Canadian mixed-media artist whose creative journey began in childhood. Originally from Trois-Rivières, Quebec, and based in Ottawa for more than 40 years, she has explored many mediums, including watercolour, photography, pottery, stained glass, and jewellery making.
After 18 years working in watercolour, Therese discovered a new artistic voice through abstract painting and acrylic on tissue paper. For nearly 20 years, she has combined bold acrylic colours with delicate tissue paper to create luminous layers, rich textures, unexpected patterns, and translucent effects.
Her work has been shaped by studies at the Ottawa School of Art and by artists such as Claire Labrosse, Mary Nunn, and Robert Burridge. An internationally award-winning artist, Therese has received numerous honours, including Best of Show in Ferrara, Italy, and was selected for an artist residency in Nice, France.
Through her exploration of colour, light, texture, and transparency, Therese creates vibrant abstract works that invite viewers to pause, explore, and experience the unexpected.
Artistic Statement
My work is an exploration of the emotional connection between nature, memory and imagination. Through layers of colour, texture and form, I create atmospheric landscape that are not meant to represent a specific place but rather evoke feelings sensations and quiet moments that nature inspires in us.
I am drawn to the ever-changing rhythms of the natural world and these experiences become the foundation for my intuitive process where layers of acrylic, collage and mixed media are built, removed and transformed into a sense of harmony.
I embrace experimentation and discovery, allowing each painting to evolve organically. The tactile, transparency and depth of each piece invite the viewer into a deeply emotional space. My artwork offers much more than an image on the wall.
Through my work, I hope to celebrate the beauty of nature and the moments of wonder an connection to the world around us.
